For The Record started back in late March of 2001. But the events that brought Jake Schon, Glen Bleakley, Thomas Giglio and Jake Pezzicola together are what makes the story interesting. Thomas and Jake S. were in a fairly good pop punk band called Twice the Fun. Although they got no real attention from any labels, they did make one CD that some people still listen to today. Twice the Fun lasted for a little more than a year before their drummer decided he wanted to go for something different. The band split up around December and things quieted down fore Jake and Thomas. They began their own acoustic careers, recorded some songs and even played out a couple times, however didn't really get involved in the scene until mid January of 2001. This brings us to Glen and Jake P.'s story. The two were in a local hardcore band known as fail-safe. They had some success in the shore area, played some shows and even put out a CD. But the furious five piece felt something missing in their music. Enter Jake S., long time friend of Jake P. and established guitar player of the now defunct Twice the Fun. Jake S. was more than qualified for the second guitar slot. Unfortunately fail-safe only got to play one show with the new line up before things began going downhill for them. After a long chain of events fail-safe was no more. The two Jakes, still being friends would occasionally play in the garage for fun ....enter Thomas...Invited to play with the two Jakes once in a while, it was nothing more than something fun to do on the weekends. Thinking nothing of the jam sessions Thomas went on a surf trip to Cape Hatteras. Upon his return he gets a phone call from Jake S."hey you wanna play guitar in a band?" It turns out that while Thomas was gone Jake "the blake" Schon, being the tricky bastard he is, booked a show under the fake band name "Smellhound". He then recruited Glen on bass. Less than a week before the show Glen received a crash course on how to play the bass and was taught five or six songs. Thomas "the promise" who had previously played bass in TTF had no guitar or amp. He managed to throw together a ghetto set-up consisting of one punk rock Johanna Millers' blue fender and and a campy acoustic amp from the late 70's. Amazingly the show went off without a hitch, not only that the energy and unity of the band at their first show was something unexpected. Just maybe this four piece was onto something with a combination of the melodic TTF sound coupled with the aggressive hardcore energy of fail-safe. This just might work After that show they came up with the official band name "For The Record" Since that night in March the group has played numerous shows and completed their first six song demo that is "pretty damn good" Alive and very well For The Record is on the prowl...watch yo'self............ |
